FEMA and the Department of Defense announced today that the Texas National Guard has mobilized for duty just ahead of the anticipated landfall of tropical storm Dolly.

“Private First Class Hester McFadden, one of two National Guardsmen not in Iraq, is at this very moment on his way for deployment at a major Brownsville intersection,” said a FEMA spokesperson, “Private McFadden will coordinate traffic movement and will be equipped with some food, six bottles of water, a tarp, and a king-sized package of disposable diapers in case an emergency shelter has to be set up on a nearby corner.”

Asked when the Guard will reach his actual deployment area, the spokesperson estimated two more days.

“Private McFadden lost both legs in Iraq, so it will take a while for him to get there,” the spokesperson explained.

The other remaining Guardsman, Private Leonetta Smith, who suffered traumatic brain injury and burns over 90 percent of her body in Iraq, is not yet ready for direct deployment, but officials announced she would be available for emergency backup…..

Senator John McCain, rebutting claims that a McCain presidency would continue the failed policies of George Bush, outlined the major differences a McCain administration would represent.

“We’re not the same,” he said.

McCain, promising more specific details later, said they would include a clear distinction between the wealthy and the rich, stronger support for female fetuses, additional health care for those who could afford it, and a first lady “who wears sable rather than enables and has a set of twins that’s much more enjoyable to look at.”

A spokesperson for McCain later defended his twins comment.

“Like the Senator’s earlier jokes about Chelsea Clinton’s looks and a woman who had been raped by a gorilla and enjoyed it, this indicates that Senator McCain is authentic and not over-handled by media advisors.”
